In 2012 half a million candidates with twinkling eyes full of dreams applied for the Civil Services Exams. 2.71 lakh people with determination in their hearts actually appeared, out of which 998 sharp minds (753 men and 245 women) were declared successful by The Union Public Services Commission. One dream that not just came true but also topped the list of thesuccessful candidates was Haritha V Kumar.
This girl whose hard work paid off and secured the highest marks, was basically trained as an Electronics Engineer, could achieve her goal in the fourth attempt. The B.Tech graduate from Thiruvananthapuram cleared the prelims in her very first attempt but could not get through the mains. In her second attempt she got the 179th rank and opted for IRS. The heart desiring ultimate success did not just sit back happily with the achievement her kitty. The thirst for being the best was only quenched in her fourth attempt, when she got the first rank. She had opted for Economics and Malayalam for in all her attempts. Currently this Indian Revenue Service probationer is in Faridabad going through her training period.
Her father Mr. Vijaya Kumar said that Haritha had always been a very hard working student and was dedicated towards her goal. She was a student of Pala Civil Service Institute; she also appeared for mock tests and interviews in other institutes. She is not just an outstandingly brilliant student but also has other talents; she is a trained singer and dancer.
There are millions of young candidates who are working extremely hard to clear UPSC exams but many a times it is seen that they do not get the desired results. Every student’s hard work needs to be channelized in a proper direction. Some of the UPSC stars unfold their success mantras expecting it could be helpful for the future aspirants as it provides guidance.
Kshipra Agre (24) from Pune, secured the 29th rank in her third attempt. She believes that updating her knowledge of current affairs was the key to her success.
Ravi Pattanshetti (28) basically from Belgaum, settled in Pune, secured the 47th rank in his third attempt. According to him there is no definite mantra for success in Civil Services examination. He feels it is very important to understand the question that is being asked. One should have a clear concept of the topic and use it to frame the answer accurately as per the question.
Some others said it is important to have a consistent, patient temperament as this is an exam where one fails she/he has to start with the preparations right from the scratch again, which requires a lot of hard work, patience and zeal to achieve. The attitude of “never giving up” is the one quality that brings a person a step closer to success.
For an IAS aspirant it is very important to stay mentally as well as physically fit. To succeed, complete positive change in one’s lifestyle is a must. Candidates should be aware of everything going around the world; they should avoid activities which keeps their brains numb.
Having a planned schedule which gives them a good amount of time for rest and sleep is important. Having nutrient food, indulging in physical activities such as free hand exercises, yoga and meditation keeps the mind and body fresh. It is important to know when to detach from the routine and pressure as stress is directly related to anxiety, panic attacks and depression, and all these dampen one’s cognitive function. So it requires a healthy balanced lifestyle.
